Hogan Speech Pathology
“A stroke left my wife with the left side of her mouth a good ½ inch down. She could not hold water in her mouth.
Tess Hogan spent the effort and gained the confidence with Betty to achieve the goal of success.
Her efforts paid off. Now nearly a straight mouth and talking clearly.”

“I was recently diagnosed by an ENT doctor as having a vocal cord nodule. I presented with coughing, losing my voice, sounding gravelly and having trouble speaking with
fluidity. He recommended that I seek the services of a speech pathologist to see if I could get rid of the nodule with vocal habilitation. He diagnosed the problem as vocal
abuse. I do tend to raise my voice and shout, and I have a job that requires me to be talking constantly. He gave me a six-week time frame to see if the rehabilitation would
help. If it didn’t, the nodule would have to be surgically removed and biopsied.
I made an appointment with Tess Hogan, who assessed my pathology with questionnaires and an examination. She then gave me one-on-one voice rehabilitation exercises which we
practiced together. She also gave me exercises to practice at home as well as behavioral adjustments to make between visits. After several visits, I noticed a big
improvement. I also learned things I never knew about how I was abusing my voice and how I could change that maladaptation to voice enhancement with better voice
projection and minimizing shouting. A recent visit to the ENT confirmed that the nodule is gone!
I highly recommend Tess Hogan’s services. She is personable, highly skilled, and very effective. She treated me with sincerity, concern and customized support.”

“(Tess) is absolutely the best thing that has happened to us since (my husband’s) stroke 3 years ago…I have learned more in the short time since Tess has come than in the
previous two years… Because of this he is working hard with her and no longer thinks it is all stupid. He is doing homework on his own… She has brought me information to
read so that I finally have some concept of the problems and why he does what he does. I feel he is making progress, is not so afraid, and has more confidence. She has
provided us help, insight, and, most importantly, hope.”

“I came to Tess with a 10-year history of recurring vocal issues including vocal cord nodules. As a professional singer, these injuries were creating constant stress leading
up to performances and preventing me from working consistently.
During the first session, Tess devoted time specifically to diagnosing the root of my frequent problems. Surprisingly, this was not part of my previous professional vocal training and rehabilitation courses. After identifying my weaknesses, she designed a program with exercises intended to heal previous damage caused by poor technique and to prevent future injury.
After fine-tuning the initial plan and following it diligently, I am excited to say I feel more confident vocally, have expanded my range, and expend less effort while singing.”
